MIDWIFERY & EDUCATION

Loving on Women and Babies

Welcome to Childbirth Africa.

I am Rachel J. Andersen, Licensed Midwife and owner of Childbirth Africa. I currently volunteer in a small government clinic in Dukana, North Horr Subcounty, Marsabit. This clinic serves a nomadic people who live in extreme poverty. 100% of women are circumcised and most are anemic when they go into labor. I have attended women in their homes and in the clinic. I have a desire to help other providers understand the cultural needs of women giving birth and how to provide safe, physiological care in a low resource setting.  This website is designed to be a resource for birth professionals working in the African context.  Please contact me for further questions or consultation.
